  Understanding URLs > File

  File

File URLs are rarely seen except when accessing a Web page you have downloaded on to your local drive. File URLs do not have any particularly established protocol associated with them. File URLs do not have a real place in HTML authoring.

Syntax

file://host//path

Note

Host refers to the server

Path refers to the path the file is stored on the local drive.

Exercise

In this Exercise you will learn to open a file from your local drive.

Click the File menu.

Click Open to open a file .

Click the browse button.

The open dialog box is displayed. Click the file "ex14".
