| World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) |
Berners-Lee proposed founding a consortium
to handle the problems of establishing standards for HTML
and HTTP, test proposals to determine compliance and award
a stamp of approval. So the world Wide Web (W3C) was founded
in 1994 with a goal to develop common standards for the evolution
of the World Wide Web.
The W3C is hosted by Massachusetts Institute
of Technology in the USA, INFRIA in France and keio University.
Even with its academic background, the members
of its committees are representatives of World Wide Web companies,
including organizations such as Microsoft, Netscape, Sun Microsystems,
IBM and Others.
Netscape and Microsoft are members of the
W3C.
