| Changing the
Color Balance |
We can use an adjustment layer to adjust
the color balance. We can apply any of the color correction
tools in Photoshop to an adjustment layer. We can also apply
color adjustments to a regular layer or to a channel. Making
color adjustments to a regular layer changes the pixels on
the layer permanently. Making color adjustments to the adjustment
layer does not change the color and the tone of the underlying
layers. These changes reside within the adjustment layer and
do not alter the pixels of the underlying layers.
We shall now learn to change the color balance.
Open the image file and click on the Layer menu.
Select New.
Select the
Adjustment Layer option.
New Adjustment
Layer dialog box with a default
name appears. Set the Type field to Color Balance.
Click OK.
Color Balance
dialog box appears with default settings.
Vary the three-color levels till the desired
color level is reached.
After varying the color level, click
OK.
The final image appears as shown.
Save the file. We can notice that the thumbnail for the adjustment
layer in the Layers palette
resembles a mask. By making a selection and then adding the
adjustment layer, the layer becomes a mask that applies the
adjustment only to the selected area.
