  Using Tool

After learning about the components of the toolbox, let us now see how to use them. There are two ways of selecting a tool from the tool box.

Either click on the tool in the toolbox using a mouse.

Or press the tool's keyboard shortcut. The keyboard shortcut for a toolbox item can be obtained bypositioning the mouse over the tool until its name and shortcut are displayed.

Some of the tools in the toolbox have a small triangle at the bottom right corner, indicating a sub-menu. This hidden menu can be displayed in three ways.

Either click and hold down the mouse button on the tool that has a small triangle. Then drag the mouse pointer to the desired tool and release the mouse button.

Or hold down the
Alt key and click the tool in the toolbox using the mouse.

Or use the key combination,
Shift and the tool's keyboard shortcut.

  Using the Type Tool

Click on the File menu.

Select New.

Type Image1 in the Name field in the New dialog box. Type 640 in the Width field. Type 480 in the Height field.

Click on the drop-down combo box for the Mode field. Select RGB Color.
