The greatest advantage of using Photoshop
is we can optimize images for the Web, compress the images
for the web that need to be of the lowest size to reduce the
download time. We can also optimize the images interactively
by trying different image quality settings and evaluating
the resulting images and comparing the image quality with
the compressed file size. The images can be optimized in four
formats namely GIF, JPEG, PNG-8 and PNG-24. The two most widely
used formats are GIF and JPEG. Photographs usually yield the
best results when saved as JPEG images, while illustrations
with solid colors are best saved as GIFs. Of the two, GIF
and JPEG, the size of GIF is smaller than JPEG making it more
optimum for usage in the Web.
| Optimizing a
Graphic as a JPEG |

image in JPEG format. Open an image; in our example we shall

Select Save

The Save
for Web dialog box appears.
Choose Jpeg Medium from
the Settings Dropdown list.
Click on the Optimized
tab to view the compressed size
of the image. Note at the bottom left corner format the compressed
image size and the estimated download time.
To compare compressed and the original
image size click the 2-Up tab.
